‘To assist local authorities to take a strategic approach to maximising the contribution that sport and physical activity makes to its local outcomes, the Strategic Outcome Planning Guidance has been developed.’ (Sport England, 2019).
The Sport England Strategic Outcomes Planning Guidance (SPOG) approach is a new way of working developed to identify the key outcomes required for a place, and therefore the appropriate interventions needed to make a difference in terms of community health, participation levels in physical activity, partnerships for delivery and behaviour change.
Strategic Leisure Limited (SLL) is part of the consultants’ panel which helped to support the development of SOPG and meets regularly with Sport England to provide feedback on the approach, and its implementation. SLL is currently working on a number of SOPG projects, sometimes appointed direct by Sport England, and for others, appointed direct by a local authority. We have undertaken specific Insight projects needed to support the case for investment in built interventions, as well as a number of broader studies, which look at development of Shared Outcomes, partner commitment and identification of the range of interventions needed.
