SLI provided sports and leisure advice for the Red Sea Tourism and Coastal Zone Management Plan for the Supreme Commission for Tourism in Saudi Arabia.

The study involved the development of an integrated tourism and coastal zone management plan. Key tasks included the identification of sites on the west coast of Saudi Arabia for tourism, recreation and sports development. The study included identifying a site for the development of a Scuba Diving Centre of Excellence.

SLI carried out the following tasks as part of this important study:

• Assessment of sport and leisure provision in Jeddah
• Identification of areas for tourism and sport development with Jeddah as the hub
• Identification of specific sports for potential development on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. Sports to include marine sports, indoor and outdoor sports
• Appraisal of ’Annual Programme of Sports Events’ in Jeddah
• Assessment of a site on the South West Coast of Saudi Arabia for a ’five-star’ scuba diving resort
