Nottingham City Council, Nottingham New Deal, Development of a Sports Strategy

The brief

The need for a sports and leisure strategy for the Nottingham New Deal for Committees (NDC) Area was prioritised by the Arts, Sport and Culture Theme Group. Sport and Leisure is recognised as a key driver for change in the area to help achieve the ‘vision’ for the local City Council.

Our Approach

The development of the strategy comprised of ;

  • Extensive consultation with key stakeholders in the NDC area
  • Identification of issues for the current and future provision of sport
  • Identification of options and partnerships to deliver the ‘strategic vision’
  • Development and implementation of action plans

Project Outcomes

Following extensive consultation with key stakeholders, SLL were able to develop an develop and achievable strategy and identify;

  • A range of facility provision to meet the needs of local community
  • Locations and partnerships for each facility development
  • Clear rationale for facility development, and the benefits of each recommendation
  • A clear focus in the expansion of education sites for facility provision, to reflect the roles of schools in the community, and ensure optimum use of new provision, to ensure sustainability
  • Capital and revenue resources required to support the strategy
  • Proposals for the management of each project, and how the New Deal Area would be involved in project delivery
  • A clear analysis of how each project would meet the objectives for the New Deal Area
