The brief

Derbyshire Sport is the part Derbyshire's County Sports Partnership responsible for providing the strategic lead for sport in the County. It was decided that the County's strategy needed updating because of new threats and opportunities for the current facility stock.

Strategic Leisure was appointed by Derbyshire Sport to develop a new strategy for facility provision across the County, which would address the identified issues facing current stock, and capitalise on the opportunities available for facility in terms of development and improvement.

Our Approach

Strategic Leisure assessed the current situation regarding facility provision in the County through consultation with individual authorities, and key stakeholders. The issues regarding increasing participation, facility location and condition, new development and refurbishment programmes, needs for individual sports Governing Bodies. and opportunities presented through the Building Schools for Future Programme were all highlighted.

Project Outcomes

The strategy prepared for Derbyshire Sport provided a clear framework for future provision at a strategic countywide level. The strategy highlighted opportunities for partnership, and options for addressing identified gaps in provision.
