Strategic Planning

Introduction

Strategic Leisure has delivered a considerable number of strategic planning studies for clients since 1988. Strategic Planning is part of our core business and the studies involve a number of key tasks including reviewing local and national policies and context, assessing local needs for sport, recreation and cultural activity and developing a strategy for future provision, based upon an analysis of supply and demand.

SLL has undertaken over 400 strategic planning projects for clients, involving the development of Sport and Recreation/ Sports Facilities and Cultural Strategies. These studies provide a ‘vision’ for future provision and delivery which helps to guide investment, identify links to external funding and opportunities for partnership working. The Vision is developed on the basis of a robust assessment of need, involving audit, supply and demand modelling, and consultation.

We are always objective in our approach and act as ‘critical friend’ using the experience gained to identify actions that are necessary to improve our clients’ business or development of opportunities to benefit the local needs and circumstance. The preferred approach is to work with our clients to ensure ownership of the solutions rather than to investigate in a detached manner.

Achievements and Outcomes

The most important thing for Strategic Leisure is that our clients receive expert, professional, innovative and appropriate advice. We endeavour to ensure that the study is completed on-time, on-budget and that it includes firm recommendations on the strategic direction for sport, physical and cultural activity based on objective assessment and consultation. A comprehensive strategy provides a sound assessment of need and recommended actions to enable the client to focus resources and ensure effective outcomes for delivery of services and opportunities.
