The brief

Hall Place, Bexley is the largest playing pitch site in Bexley Council, hosting an existing nine football pitches and seven cricket pitches. The existing changing rooms did not meet Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) legislation, nor the expectations and needs of current pitch users, due to their existing poor condition. The need for more flexible accommodation, to serve the needs of senior players, males and females, and juniors, male and female, was an important consideration in the proposal to re-develop provision on this key site. A further important desired outcome of the project was the ability to separate the sporting and heritage use of the site, to maximise opportunities for participation, whilst delivering on issues of security and equity.

The existing changing rooms provided for a total of 12 teams on site; the proposed re-development of the changing accommodation made provisions for 18 teams, and a meeting/class room facility. The project required the submission of a funding application to the football foundation fir 50% of the cost to build new changing facilities at Hall Place.

Our Approach

Strategic Leisure carried out the feasibility for the project, all consultation, football and other sports development plan, a 5 year business plan, advised the in house team of architects and completed the application form covering all questions for Bexley Council.

Project Outcomes

Strategic Leisure was been successful in helping Bexley Council achieve its Football Foundation bid for £1 million which will provide modern facilities for 18 teams and additional facilities for the site.
