The brief

Strategic Leisure was appointed project manager for the management and operation of Bolton Arena. Bolton Arena is a unique £15m facility housing an indoor tennis area and Sports Education Theatre. The facility also provides for other sports including, athletics, netball, football, and rugby, and has a state of the art health and fitness suite.

Our Approach

Strategic Leisure’s role of project manager involved a number of tasks including;

• Formation of the company
• Negotiation of all documentation on behalf of the trust
• Business planning
• Sponsorship
• Staff recruitment
• Normal, operating and emergency procedures
• Marketing
• Contract externalisation (bars, catering, cleaning, security, etc…)

Project Outcomes

Much of the consultants work has been advising the ‘shadow trust’ and the project stakeholders throughout the commissioning process and ensuring a win win outcome in the spirit of partnership. The Arena opened in 2001 and played host to the Commonwealth Games 2002
