The brief

Strategic Leisure was appointed by the Amateur Rowing Association to produce a strategy that sets out the facilities requirements for Rowing over a six year period and an overview of the facilities needs of Rowing at National, Regional and Local level in order to ensure the development of facilities, which meet the sports development objectives of sport, and the effective and efficient distribution of Lottery Sports Funding to the sport.

The strategy focus was England, but high performance level, training and competition needed to reflect a Great Britain perspective incorporating needs of British athletes.

On completion of the project a National Facilities Strategy for the Association was produced. The strategy included a comprehensive audit of existing provision, priorities for development for the sport, guidance on water training, competition course requirements and guidance on priorities for Lottery Sports Funds awards.
